This is your opportunity to find the perfect hands-on, real-world experience to match your career interests. We offer paid student jobs and externships designed for DVM students. We offer two distinct tracks to match your educational goals:
Track 1: DVM Student Job/Externship
Eligibility: 1st - 4th Year Students
Location: Nationwide (950+ Hospitals)
Duration: Flexible (Typically 2-4 Weeks)
Our program is designed to meet your schedule's demands with no application deadlines. With options within General Practice (GP), Urgent Care/ER, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, and more, we offer a diverse range of learning environments. This track allows you to:
- Gain Broad Clinical Experience: Receive mentorship and supervision from experienced veterinarians in internal medicine, surgery, and other services offered by your hospital.
- Observe and Participate: You'll be involved in medical and surgical procedures, the diagnostic process, and (when possible) client communication.
- Enhance Your Diagnostic Skills: You will get hands-on practice interpreting fecal samples, blood smears, radiographic images, urinalysis, and CBC/Chemistry panels.
- Fine-Tune Your Technical Skills: Put your classroom knowledge to the test and develop your hands-on abilities in a supportive environment.
- Join the Medical Team: You'll participate in case management, diagnostic interpretation, and therapeutic drug selection.
Track 2: Dentistry Externship Program
Eligibility: 3rd & 4th Year Students Only
Location: Durham, NC | Flower Mound, TX | Baton Rouge, LA
Duration: 2 Weeks
From understanding the fundamentals to shadowing actual procedures, our Dentistry Externship Program is built to provide you with a better working knowledge of the many different facets of dentistry within veterinary medicine. You will learn directly from a Board-Certified Dentist at one of our state-of-the-art dental surgical training centers.
Curriculum Highlights:
- Dentistry Basics: Master the foundational concepts of veterinary oral health.
- Specialized Imaging: Gain experience with advanced dental radiography and imaging techniques.
- Dental Specialty Operations: Observe the workflow and management of a high-level dental specialty practice.
- Dental Procedures: Shadow and understand complex dental surgeries and treatments.
Requirements
- Active enrollment in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at an accredited university.
- Note: The Dentistry Externship is reserved for 3rd and 4th-year students.
- Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, friendly attitude.
- A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
- A compassionate, team-player attitude and a respect for clients and their pets.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
