I changed the listing for this job from associate veterinarian to intern/resident because I wanted to attract those who have a deep desire to learn the art of practicing excellent medicine. I am not going to try to attract someone with pay, benefits, etc....these are all things that we can provide competitively, but I want special people to work here. I want people with a PASSION for medicine and surgery, not someone looking for a paycheck and vacation. I guarantee you will be paid very well and if you do well, will be raised often. I do NOT pay based on production. I have always thought this is very unethical. If you are not performing up to standard, I will sit down and discuss it with you, but I won't make you order extra ear cleanings just to pay your mortgage. We don't do boarding and grooming because we are a Veterinary Hospital, not a Resort.
I urge you to contact my current associates to ask about fair pay, working conditions, etc.

OK, so I am not even going to try to compete with all the financial stuff corporate SAYS they will give you(after 25 yrs in the biz, trust me, if it sounds too good to be true......). I hope those of you in the job hunt appreciate the millions spent on marketing to hook you into signing a contract. I also do not believe in contracts unless YOU want one. I would never try to keep a doctor who is unhappy here. If you don't like it here, you won't do a good job, so why would I force you to stay? I want happy vets who enjoy coming to work, not vets who feel trapped and can't leave.
Anyway, I will pay you well. That we can negotiate. I will also give you plenty of time off, but you have to prove yourself to me first. I'm not going to promise ANYONE a week off after 3 months when I don't know them. Having said that, I am very liberal with time off, I just don't make promises up front to strangers.
We have plenty of toys--good lab equipment, DR x-ray, ultrasound, etc, etc....no stone age crap here. What we don't have, I will consider acquiring if there is a need for it. We are called Budget Vet to attract the underserved, but it doesn't mean we cut corners. We often end up fixing what couldn't be fixed at other much higher priced practices. We want to be accessible to all.
We have an amazing practice with an amazing diversity of cases. Because we try to be accessible, we see all sorts of cases. We don't refer everything because our clients can't afford to refer for the most part. So, we do a lot of cool stuff and do it well. Two days ago, I fixed a patent urachus. I routinely do Bulldog Packages. We do over 400 canine c-sections a year. We do in-house chemotherapy and I have personally placed a chemoport for ease of treatment. We do a fair amount of orthopedic surgery and advanced soft tissue surgery. We can't do everything, but we try to offer and alternative in between $5k and free euthanasia. We are excited and enthusiastic about our jobs. We LOVE helping pets and their people. We try to make it affordable so they can actually afford to do things. I know that sounds so James Herriot, but we are what we are. We have actual compassion for animals and the clients. And newsflash.....we STILL are very profitable.
I will teach you anything but I will NOT prop you up and hold your hand everyday. I will make you think and figure it out yourself, but I will make sure you don't make any mistakes. I will answer any questions you have, but I will also make you look it up first so you REALLY learn it. If you have an excessive amount of anxiety, this is not the place for you. If you have a normal amount of hesitance doing new things, I can get you over that. I am not a therapist, however and I don't suffer whiners well. I believe in full disclosure. I have 25 years of experience in small animal emergency, general mixed practice(horses, cattle, goats, pigs) and high volume spay and neuter. There are not many things I have not seen or done. I am a patient teacher and I WILL mentor you if you need it.
A minimum requirement for working here is a HEALTHY sense of humor. That means being able to laugh at yourself as well. We have a good time. We don't make fun of each other, but we do rib each other. If that doesn't make sense to you, then this is probably not a good fit.
We welcome everyone of every background, but don't expect political correctness. I treat everyone the same, based on what they DO, not who they are. We are incredibly diverse because our community is, NOT because we planned it.
I'm not easy, but I am the best boss you will ever have if you listen and pay attention. I will help you in and out of work in any way I can as long as you do your job and show me that you care about doing a good job.
The opening is 8-5 Mon-Fri with very limited repro on call on weekends. There are three of us right now....if we added a 4th or 5th, we could do 4 day work weeks easily. I would hire 2 associates right now if I could find them.
We ARE different. Come hang out with us for a day and see how different we are. I promise you that you have never seen a clinic operate quite like we do....you will either love it or hate it, but you won't see it anywhere else.
You hear the corny cliche that clinics are like a family? Well, we actually are. We have a great staff and I don't tolerate bad employees that ruin days for everyone. We don't have the crusty old receptionist that everyone is afraid to fire. We don't have the domineering tech that everyone is afraid to fire. We don't have the slack kennel help that just holds up walls all day and gets in the way. Everyone here has a purpose and is important. For that reason, we only retain those that are helpful to us. This means you will have incredible, not just breathing, support staff. You get to be the doctor, not a glorified tech. We are always in the process of adding to our amazing staff. If we find a good addition, we keep them, but I don't make other staff suffer with working with poor employees long term. It's demoralizing to the good employees and poisons the environment. We are still a young company and you will have the chance to influence our growth and trajectory.
We have no plans to go corporate. NONE. We believe in the independent vet. No preprinted treatment formularies. Don't have it on the shelf? It's OK to script it out. We do what is best for the patient....and guess what?? That's also the most profitable way to do things!!
Conyers is a cool little town 35 miles east of Atlanta. Country enough to relaxing. Close enough to the city if you want city things. Within a couple of hours of the beach or the mountains. Pretty affordable standard of living. Close to Auburn and UGA for referrals, although several private referral practices nearby as well. Also a shareholder of an emergency clinic. Possibility for you to pick up shifts there if you want as well.
Veterinary Degree, State of Georgia licensure, DEA licensure.
Ability to work and be a team member.
