We are seeking an enthusiastic veterinary technician to join our growing team full time and work in our Neurology Department. VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury is a 24-hour emergency/critical care and specialty referral practice in Westbury, New York. Just 28 miles or a short train ride to the amazing New York City and beaches all around. We offer 5 specialties including: Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Oncology. We are Trauma Level 1 Certified, indicating our resources and ability to provide sophisticated emergent and critical patient care. We offer multiple advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities such as MRI, CT, and Fluoroscopy.

Summary of Job Description and Function:
Assist Board Specialized Neurologist with consultations and rechecks
Perform, create and assist in sedation and anesthesia protocols for MRI and CT imaging, Surgical, neurologic and various other procedures
Assist in patient procedures: preparation of patients, instruments, equipment
Perform light laser therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for neurological patients(will train in house)
Plan, organize, and manage the daily flow of service
Assist with diagnostic testing including sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, submitting and running lab work
Maintenance of equipment used in Neurology service
Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
General and advanced nursing care in our ICU unit

The ideal candidate will be a team player who is a friendly, dependable, positive multi-tasker with excellent communication and client service skills and strong emotional intelligence.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician
Valid New York License for Veterinary Technician (LVT), or be license eligible.
Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.
Ability to calculate drug doses and administer medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and/or orally
Four ten-hour shifts are required for this department. (Neurology is a Tuesday to Friday service)
Paid on call availability
