The Director of Veterinary Academic Affairs position is designed to foster the development and growth of relationships between Blue Buffalo Company and AVMA-accredited veterinary academic institutions in the Northeast Region. Primary roles and responsibilities of this position include interaction with and travel to veterinary universities to form partnerships between these universities and Blue Buffalo Company.
Execute the following responsibilities with a moderate degree of independence, while maintaining an understanding of the business goals and strategies, products, markets, customers, competitive situations and key players related to our products:
Must lead the development and implementation of programs within veterinary universities and academic communities to enhance knowledge of the Blue Buffalo Co. brand lines with future veterinarians, as well as key academic professionals, with the BLUE brand.
Serve as the technical expert for academic communities, evaluating academic educational needs and then working to prepare and present technical lectures on our product lines to academic communities and future veterinary professionals. (40%)
Represent Blue Buffalo at Veterinary Schools, Professional Veterinary Associations and Conferences (20%)
Actively work with Marketing and Veterinary Affairs in development of presentations and marketing communications, and as a conduit for providing insightful knowledge of current and emerging marketplace trends and needs. (20%)
Meet with key opinion leaders and veterinary school faculty to discuss potential new business opportunities (10%)
Engage with other members of the True BLUE Veterinary Program to develop internal live seminars and/or webinars to enhance the knowledge of our sales and professional team. (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
DVM/VMD from accredited university
Board-Certification (AAVN or ACVIM) preferred
Minimum 5 years’ experience in clinical companion animal veterinary general or specialty practice or industry experience and strong knowledge of Small Animal Nutrition
1-3 years public speaking experience
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Competency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Must be able to work effectively with our customers and our sales force
Travel required (minimum 50%)
PREFERRED SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in a matrix environment.
Ability to develop technical content and communicate effectively to wide range of audiences including veterinary university faculty and administrators, veterinary students, key opinion leaders and Blue Buffalo sales and marketing teams.
Ability to propose new applications to support product and / or business expansion, ability to develop strong networks internally and externally beyond initial field of expertise.
Experience in developing partnerships, ability to influence, and possessing good communication skills
This position requires a strong veterinary medical background, a good understanding of small animal nutrition, and experience with training and development.
Strong demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise in field for effective collaboration with external and internal stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal and cross cultural communication skills demonstrating ability to nurture scientific, business or regulatory relationships.
Ability to integrate new information and adapt plans accordingly.
Skillful in translating business requirements to actionable solutions and providing input into developing compelling proposals.
Practical and industrial experience in the veterinary business channel including 5+ years’ experience.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. required.
