Breathitt Veterinary Center (BVC), a unit of Murray State University, is located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky just minutes from Clarksville, Tennessee and close to Nashville, Tennessee. Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is also minutes away with many outdoor activities.

Breathitt Veterinary Center is a fully accredited AAVLD laboratory and is associated with NAHLN, LIRN, and NPIP.

Responsibilities: Perform necropsies on animal carcasses and report appropriate findings. Interpret histopathology slides of necropsy submissions and report findings. Conduct appropriate research and publish findings. Provide consultations with veterinarians and livestock farmers. Provide instruction as required, for Animal Health Technology curriculum. Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written skills). Ability to work with a wide variety of people. Comply with Quality Management System. Perform special projects as determined by Head of Pathology.
Qualifications: DVM or equivalent. MS OR two years residency training in anatomic pathology with an emphasis on diagnostics. Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are vital.

The BVC is part of an interdependent team composed of the animal owner, veterinarian, and diagnostic laboratory dedicated to the efficient production of safe animal products to the consumers of Kentucky. The BVC uses the latest scientific knowledge, equipment, and techniques to reduce losses from animal diseases and to promote animal health.
The BVC is fully accredited for all animal species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD). The scientific disciplines of Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Toxicology, Serology, and Virology are provided in the facility.
