We are currently seeking a Trainer to serve in Boston, Massachusetts (Brigham and Women's Hospital).
OVERVIEW: This position is for a Trainer for the Animal Care Project. It includes activities for the proper care of onsite animals. We expect the Trainer to be forward thinking, creative, and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff working on this contract. This person will be familiar with the day-to-day activities, employees, and concerns within the facilities; while effectively managing relationships with customers and clients.
Essential Duties of the Trainer:
Understands and follows appropriate SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance standards
Drives the SOP review process, including organizing SOP committee, creating and revising SOPs, and ensuring all SOPs reviewed at least once every 3 years
Develops staff training curriculum to consist of hands-on demonstrations, instructional classroom, or a combination of these
Develops and conducts staff training, to include: o New hire orientation o New hire training o Promotion training o SOP training (new and/or revised) o All staff training sessions o AALAS certification review sessions o Safety training o Management training for supervisors o Remedial / refresher training o Hands-on training
Ensures each employee is trained/proficient on current SOPs required for their position; performing employee assessments to verify proficiency
Serves as a subject matter expert in all areas of the facilities
Works with management to identify and prioritize topics for staff training
Prepares, reviews, and maintains required training forms, employee training folders, and training database
Reports any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff
Performs other duties under supervision as assigned
Schedule: Weekend work is a requirement of this position (as scheduled). In addition, extra work hours are required during an emergency situation if any unexpected situations arise until work is completed.
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
AALAS certification at the LATG level required
3 years of experience in laboratory animal science, working knowledge of all activities of an animal facility preferred
Previous supervisory experience is preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong teaching skills
Computer proficiency working with software such as MS Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and web browsers
Must be able to lift 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period
